Assessment & Gap Analysis

Definition:

DecisionPath defines an Assessment and Gap Analysis as a flexible investigation of any strategic, tactical, and/or operational factors that might impede the success of a BI initiative, and the subsequent documentation of findings and recommendations based on client objectives for BI and on a gap analysis in relation to best practices. While they vary in scope and duration, Assessments and Gap Analyses tend to be focused and quick-hitting, often establishing focal points and building consensus for a subsequent BI Roadmap project.

Purposes:

  1. Understand where a company stands in BI maturity, in BI readiness, and/or in relation to one or more aspects of BI best practices.
  2. Understand specific BI issues of concern to a company, which can be strategic, tactical, or operational in focus.

Benefits:

  1. Provides an independent, objective perspective from experts in the use of BI to drive improved business results.
  2. Educates business and/or technical communities about BI critical success factors and key risks.
  3. Helps companies understand where they stand in relation to BI uses, best practices, and resource requirements.
