BI Roadmap & Justification

Definition:

DecisionPath defines a BI Roadmap – sometimes called a Program Plan – as a strategic document that provides a compelling business justification for leveraging BI to improve business results and a pragmatic business and technical plan and schedule for managing risk and achieving targeted business process improvements.

Purposes:

  1. Build a compelling and pragmatic business case for leveraging BI for such purposes as reducing costs, acquiring and retaining profitable customers, achieving operational excellence, increasing campaign effectiveness, meeting regulatory mandates, delivering more robust management and financial information, improving strategic performance, and driving top-line growth.
  2. Identify and make plans to overcome common BI challenges, risks, and barriers to success.
  3. Develop a comprehensive, actionable BI Roadmap (or Program Plan) for delivering high value BI applications that deliver targeted business process improvements and realize the business case.

Benefits:

  1. Achieves business buy-in and executive sponsorship of the BI program by identifying specific business process improvement objectives and addressing key business challenges.
  2. Overcomes common BI challenges and thereby reduces cost, schedule, and technical risk and accelerates creation of business value.
  3. Provides a clear path toward attainment of targeted business benefits, improved business results, and intelligent deployment of appropriate technical architecture and infrastructure.
